G'day from down under,

Wifey has been bearing a lot of pain from an arthritic hip.

Long story short - she gets a new titanium one on Monday.

Now we hear  - from some 'friend' ! - of metallosis -  'leaking" of titanium into the body.  An article off wikipedia  [supposedly]  states "estimated 5% of metal implants over the past 40 years" have been affected.

Frankly I do not believe that ONE in TWENTY [5%] of implant recipients have problems.

Question -  WHO did the "estimate"?

I know lots of people with artificial hip and knee joints - all fit and healthy.

Anyone like to comment on the above?

Funny story to conclude.! A fiesty old relative in her late eighties had a hip replacement. Doctor came in and observed her asleep - or so he thought!

Comment from Doc to the on duty nurse - "That will see that old biddy out!"  Opening one eye she retorted "I'll see you out, sonny!"

My only question would be, have the problems been fixed on this new hip she is about to get, no worry about what went wrong 40 years ago. Would be of interest to see how old are the implants that caused trouble ?
