Ilderton, Ontario
John, a couple reasons. First the further north you go, the closer the lines of latutude get. this means that maturity groups change quickly up here, and I am north of chatham ever so slightly. secondly, all of our beans are followed with winter wheat. the best before date on wheat in this area is Oct. 10. oops missed it this year. We would really prefer to have our wheat planted before October, but the last month has been very wet. I don't think we are alone on this. it looks as if it has been wet 300 miles all around us. Just for reference a full season bean in this area would be a 2.0. Real adventurous folks might grow a 100 day corn. 92-97 would be the majority. and thank you, this is a very nice place with good soils, but we usually don't get the sun intensity that people south and west of us get because of the big ponds that surround us. they tend to give off lots of Dihydrogen Oxide which tends to block the sun on some occasions.
Good luck with your harvest,
