Subject: RE: Trimble RTK 450 Mhz

Malawi
We use Trimble 450 MHz using old ms750 bases with an hpb 450 radio. We mounted a 10ft 5db gain antenna on a tower about 100ft up using LMR 400 cable and can easily reach far fields at about 16 miles. We are on flat ground but also use xfill behind trees etc. Interestingly we also do some work about 33 miles away and get enough signal that allows us to use xfill most of the time. I couldn't believe this at first but the screen shows the distance to base which confirmed it. We have a row of hills running down one side so I can only assume the signal is being reflected.? We use the same tower for levelling work using Trimble multi plane or opti-surface and post level surveys are good enough. All with no glonass..
So it all depends on set up - height and quality cables being paramount. You could also put in some permanent post mounts at various points on the lands and program them into the base with different configuration names but just be sure to always use the same one in the same fields.
