Subject: RE: 4440 Question

SW MN
My dad bought our 4440 new in the summer of 1980. It was our Big Workhorse at the time. It had loads of power over 175 pto from factory. the 4440 chasis is the same as the smaller hp tractors. So your not getting a bulky tractor. It does need rpms to spool up the turbo for torque. It would not burn anymore fuel than our 2630 on an 8 row cultivator, and you sat in a nice AC cab. This Tractor your considering, what maintenance history does it have? the AC can be costly to fix, depends on what's wrong. the Quad range was standard, and I consider better than the jerky 8 speed power shift. If you can fix the cosmetic issue's yourself, and maybe a few other things. You could get a good buy, its kind of a crap shoot. How worn is the front steering joints? tires? cab interior? What has it done for all those hours? Ours now has around 6000 hrs. engine not touched. had one axle bearing start to wear. fixed that. other wise just the AC system has had the most work for a 38 year old tractor.
