It's not too bad if you're pretty handy under the hood. My wife has had an 02 civic since it was new and I've put a couple on it. Change the water pump, timing belt and the idler while you've got it apart. The only part that's kinda dumb is that you've got to loosen the valve cover to get the top side cover off to get at all that stuff. Be careful with those plastic sidecovers they get brittle with age.

Pretty much the best/only way I've found is to remove the drivers side wheel and inner fender well. After that it's all right in front of you. Ask the auto parts store about the special tool to get the balancer/crank pulley off. Make sure number one is at TDC and then all the pulleys stay still while the belt is off.

I did the first one pre YouTube but I bet there is bound to be a good video there now a days.
