The app, the drone software, and the battery software all need to be in the same time frame.

I'm guessing he has new app software version, and older drone software.

That is a -very- typical reason for a P3 to lose connection shortly after taking off. Sometimes they done want to connect at first, then appear to, and then after about 2 minutes lose connection and fly home.

He would need to update the drone software. Typically the best is to download the software as a file with a computer, put it on the camera card, and insert then boot up the drone with the camera card in it.

The drone might take a half hour updating itself.

I have a P3 professional, and dealt with this a couple times, as the software updates only part of itself automatically.

Really, we all hate the newer versions of software, I stopped updating a couple years ago, he will find he is much more restricted once he gets to the newest version; but he's stuck now half and half.

Oh, the battery gets updated from the drone so that will take care of itself I believe.
