Southern Idaho | To be fair you are right at the edge of abnormally dry on the map. And just because an area is wet TODAY doesn't mean it is not abnormally dry for the last month or two. It may show an area as abnormally dry if you've received 3 inches intead of the normal 4 inches but 2.5 of those inches were last week. I don't know exactly how they determine where to paint the drought monitor maps but I believe they are pretty accurate for viewing the big picture over time.
The better maps to pay attention to are the crop moisture maps that deere6 always posts because they show the soil moisture RIGHT NOW. Not sure where he gets those maps but they are probably the only ones worth looking at most of the time. | |
