Subject: RE: Agco combine ?

NW KS/ SC ID
Gleaner Transverse, N, R, and S series: true Gleaner, basic design goes back to the 70s with the N series. Very unique design, rotor sits sideways, crop enters on the right side, exits on the left. Eliminates any sort of beater or transition cone that the competitors have. accelerator rolls defy gravity, great for rolling cropland. Cheap upkeep, very important with 3 dollar corn. quite possibly the most affordable/efficient machine per hour in the industry.

Gleaner C series, 98-02, Essentially a R62 with a MF high-inertia type cylinder in place of the rotor and a long tail on it with walkers. Kind of a "put together" walker rather than a clean slate design. 2 pre-production prototypes sit at Mike's Equipment, Buhler KS for the combine buffs who enjoy history like that.

Gleaner A series, 07-11, basically a silver painted MF. If you want a closer breakdown, the above explanation has it pretty close.

Massey: Last true MF was the 860 in the 80s. When White Farm Equipment went broke in the 80s, as did MF, Canadian Gov't intervened to save jobs and try to save one of the mfg.ers in Brandtford Ontario, so Essentially the gov't gave the White Rotary combine to MF to try to prop them up. So the best thing about the machine is that its not a Massey. ;)

MF rebranded the White 9320 and 9720 the MF 8560 and 8590, and then quit production of the 8590 and updated a few things including a larger engine on the 8560, and the 8570 was born.

Agco came into play, and the 8780 was born, and the Gleaner C62 was painted red and sold as the 8680. 8780 turned into the 8780XP. I assume the 8780 was built in Hesston, but to be frank IDK.

Then the 9690 and 9790 launched, then the 9695, 9795, and then the return of the big rotor with the 9895. The big rotor diameter is found in the White 9700, 9720, MF 8590, and then a shortened version in the 9895, A85, A86, 680B and all newer class 8 MF and Challenger.

New series is the 9500 and then the 9505 series, 9520,40, and 60, class 6,7,8.

Challenger. 660 and 670, then 660B, 670B, and 680B, then the 520C, 540C, and 560C. Closely mirrored the MF, except early class 6 and 7 models had Cat engines. Starting with the 500C series they got Sisu like the MF. All 680Bs, A85,6, and MF 9895s ran a C13 Cat at 425 HP.

All current Gleaner, Challenger, and Non-Ideal MF are made in Hesston KS, so while they are radically different from each other, some drivetrain components, cabs, and some other misc. parts are shared. Both seem to enjoy " beautifully simple" designs throughout each machine. Check out the cooling systems, unloading systems, and drive systems on each, both are pretty impressive.

Ideal: European design that is clean slate, and IMO is designed to go after Lexion. It looks like an impressive machine, but goes against most of the design principles that make the Hesston built machines appealing. IMO bringing it to N. America is a mistake, Agco will likely drop the ball.

Lexion: Made by Claas, zero connection (combine wise) to Agco. Like said above there was a partnership with the Challenger track tractors and Claas but the combines are unrelated whatsoever.
