I think you want to. If you don't it will probably not work correctly. It needs isolated.
It's simple. Either open the cover of the demark box and unplug it (if it has the demark it SHOULD have) or if it's an old set up with a couple pencil fuses pull the fuses. Or side cuts to the incoming cable works. Just make sure the wires aren't shorting each other.
