Not quite the same situation as yours but similar. I seeded a mix of grass and alfalfa early this spring. With the cool April it was very slow to start. It's coming on well now and is tempting to mow to control weeds or graze. I decided to let it grow for awhile yet then take a hay cutting then graze the regrowth. I think the alfalfa needs to get established before doing anything to it.
