Are the fields long term/permanent grasslands?

How many years can one go for seed production?

Are fields only used for seed production or do you get a second late summer/fall hay crop? Ever used as pasture?

How about weed control?

I see a few stems and seed-heads of orchard grass in the picture along the fence, so what about other species of grasses being scattered or getting a start in a field? Thanks.

Fescue was introduced to this part of the world in the 50's sometimes a severe drought will kill it out and some feild are killed on purpose to plant one of the novel types of fescue.

Most will cut hay right behind the combine and then use for pasture later in the fall.

Some do, some don't, you will have better hay if you don't - clover or lespedeza will grow with your grass any spray will kill it to.

That is what seed cleaners are for.

Thanks guys for this thread about Fescue. I've wondered about it after read here on NAT. Thanks for the insight on this crop.
