Kingston,Mi | Not a B52 nor a interstate, but an a P51 my dad was a crew chief on made a emergency landing on a 2 lane blacktop near Millington Tennessee during training in WW2. Utility lines on both sides of the road. Slipped it between the lines and got it stopped. The Navy came out from their station at Millington and put the Shore Patrol on it for overnight guard. The next morning, the Navy proposed to dismount the wings and load the airplane to take it back to the air station, put it back together, check it out and send it and the pilot on their way back to North Carolina. The pilot said I got it in here, I can get it out. He had been a mechanic before down grading to an officer, he did the pre-flight mechanical checklist, the Navy fueled him up, and he taxied out on to the 2 lane and flew it out. | |
