Yes, blanch them BUT from the vines you will need to wash them well especially if they are harvested on a wet day or early in the morning with dew still on plants.
We usually picked them and podded by hand so they did not need so much washing.
Frozen packages in store are not that expensive if you get a good brand for taste.
