I have read if you want to check if it's something mechanical, you could measure out an inch of water or whatever amount you want in a regular rain gauge, dump it in a pop bottle with a tiny hole drilled in the bottom and set it on the Vue and let it drip until it's empty. If it matches what you put in the bottle it's not a mechanical problem.
