When you buy by the ton what feed value and moisture content do you base the ton of hay on? I told my wife if i was going to sell straight by the ton i should cut late and mature to get maxium yield and bale with acid at 25% moisture instead of cutting when hay is fine and young at 12%.
Also when do weigh the bales? Fresh off baler or days weeks or months later?
So how do you price it, per bale? Do you adjust for how it was put up, "late and mature" or "fine and young"
That being said, i have only bought per bale when the seller knows what they weigh, and that weight is accurate when i drive my truck onto the scale.
I was offered to buy some this years first cut alfalfa for $130/ton in 3x3 squares. I'll admit that i never looked at the bales, as i dont need any hay. |
