Gray County, Southwest, Kansas | Guess I’m unsure what you are asking? What I find in our circles is that the soil types that have a lower water holding capacity seem to have a harder time yielding according to the yield maps so I go in and drop the planting population in those areas. For example we like to shoot for anywhere form 28k to 30k on a circle. But if we have a area that shows up on the soil type map that is more of a clay soil then a slit loam we drop the population to around 26k in that area. We also look at the yield maps which also seem to show those heavier soils have trouble yielding. I also forgot to add we variable rate apply NH3 and Manure in our fields also. For the most part every circle has the same oil type but every once in a awhile we’ll get some clay or a little bit of a sand or gravel patch here and there. |
