The picture is fooling you. The forks do slide past the throw out bearing and contact the ears where they are supposed to.
I sure didn't think that I had the one clutch disc in backwards but I guess that is a possibility. I'm going to call the clutch shop in the morning and see what they have to say, before I take it all back apart again.
