WC Mn/Dakotas | I will disagree a little.
Drift is direct and immediate movement of droplets off target.
Inversions are immediate as well and may strengthen. Applications made during inversions don't let droplets fall down to their target to begin with. The larger droplets might be able to go down and make contact, but the smaller droplets and any "fines" will move up, not down and may stay suspended until the inversion ends,( usually mid morning the next day.)
Volitalization is when a properly deposited droplet gases off some time after application. It does not need an inversion to get up and move as it is lighter than air. An inversion could be an additional secondary player to volitalization.
Or volitalization could be immediate if temps are over 85 and low humidity evaporate the water off the droplet and the chemical gases off before being able to dry and be absorbed by the target. | |
