Chesley, Ontario
The problem with biomass production is not with the nutrient removal - most of those systems want something as close to pure cellulose as they can get, and things like NPK just become wastes to get rid of from the processing plant. The problem is that with biomass, and particularly with continuous biomass production, the return of organic matter to the soil is greatly reduced. Eventually, the soil organic matter declines to the point where soil structure breaks down and problems like crusting, poor emergence, poor drainage, etc. etc. etc. become inevitable. If you are starting with a high soil organic matter content, this may take a long time...those of us not so fortunate deal with those issues already. Just ask someone who has been growing continuous soys or continuous silage corn for a couple of decades what issues they face every time the weather isn't perfect!
