My second GPS unit was a Cruizer II which I still use in a tillage tractor to run the auto-steer. http://www.spraysmarter.com/adapt-boom-sense-cruizer-boom-sense-onl... will plug into port B of a Cruizer to feed it a 12V paint on/off signal. You can make one by supplying 12V to pin 1 of port B. I tied into my boom master switch to get this signal. The grounds are common so that wasn't an issue.

I would not bother with buying a helix antenna from Raven if it doesn't come with one. The helix antenna is better and if you're buying a "kit" then the upcharge is worth it. Buying just the antenna from Raven is just too expensive. They will want $630 for it and one can buy a superior (choke ring) antenna for $200.

With all that said I'd buy a mid range system in the $3000-$4000 range but when I was in your shoes I didn't realize how useful these are.
