I think you should consider farming the ground yourself and hiring the work custom done. That way you have total control over what gets planted and what gets done. I’m no-till and herbicide that replaces tillage is on me. But pre-emerge and in crop gets split 2/3, 1/3 no matter the crop. I’m responsible for application. My dad had a landlord 30 yrs ago that didn’t think it paid to fertilize wheat. He told my dad if the wheat yielded less without fertilizer he would cover the difference. Big surprise the yield loss was significant, landlord didn’t pay my dad the difference. Moral of the story you are hiring a guy to farm in a manner that makes everyone the most money. Let him do it, or do it yourself. But don’t come on agtalk disparaging him because you don’t want a herbicide bill.
