Subject: EZ Steer amp draw and footswitch help

I've been running an EZ Guide 250 for a few years, finally installed EZ Steer this year. I bought an all port cable and I'm powering the system through the alternate power wires through a direct wired accessory fuse block. I'm getting a lot of current draw with the 250 powered off. I figured I'd install a switch, but I'm wanting to make sure that it's normal for the system to be pulling power when it's shut down. Can anyone tell me?

Also, played with the system right after I installed it and decided that I'd really like a foot switch. I bought one thinking it was a straight forward install but I can't seem to figure out where to wire it in. Thanks for any answers I can get.
