| An autopilot system will automatically detect the direction, whereas ez steer or EzPilot don’t. They don’t need to, as they can’t engage in reverse, so it doesn’t matter. The reason they added this manually selectable feature was so if you had to reverse the implement into a corner, it would actually keep the implement on the map behind the tractor. Otherwise, the map would show the implement sitting in front of the tractor on the map. This caused issues for auto boom section shut offs, etc, as the booms wouldn’t turn on and the operator couldn’t spray these corners.
And yes - people actually do have to engage in reverse at times. This includes Row Cropping where the first foot of the Swath has to be on line. The operator would engage, reverse up, drop the implement down, then drive off, all while still engaged. | |
