Cedar Rapids, Iowa | If you have a Case IH tractor, and a Trimble 252 / 262 / 372 receiver, and are using any of the correction services that have a convergence time (OmniStar or RTX), then this is for you. You can effectively eliminate the convergence time by keeping the receiver powered up all the time.
Why: CNH decided to put the GPS receiver on a key-switched power source. Any time you turn off the tractor, the receiver shuts off too. Even if its only off for a second, you still have to let the receiver go through the convergence process.
Solution: Run a wire from the battery up to the receiver plug. Put a 1 amp fuse on the wire in the battery compartment. On the Deutsch 12 pin connector on the roof, pin 10 is the power + pin. Tape up the old wire that was in that pin, and put your new wire on it instead.
Note: If you leave the tractor off for days, this will eventually drain the battery down. Pull the fuse when you're not going to use it for a few days.
I originally looked for info on the factory wire harness to tap into it somewhere inside the cab, then add a module to keep it powered up for 24 hours after the tractor shuts off. Unfortunately I was unable to get details on that harness, and decided to go the simple route with a wire taped to the cab pillar.
