If your land is paid for, cows are paid for and market today.
My calculator says 500 pairs.
$1,500 per head cow cost
$750,000.00 herd cost
$125.00 a head cleared on calves
= 8% return on cows
JMO.....and results vary at every intersection :)
Now if you have the paid for land base, and rent it out for, let's say $200 a pair,
That's $100,000.......pay your taxes and head to the beach...... :) no fuss no muss!
Edit to add, I could not imagine calving 500 head in our weather today.
This weather makes me think......rent it and run :)
I wouldn't calve in winter I'd wait until the weather was for sure warm. Plus it would save on feed cost.
