If you looking to plant cover crops after small grain harvest. Look at a blend of warm and cool season species. Brad Young at praire state seeds in bloomfield is good resource. Sells a lot of seed, but doing this same thing on his operation for years. Skip the cheap turnips and plant the hybrids, you will get ton more growth for grazing. Well worth the extra costs.
edit, this mixture was planted in july, didn't germinate till first part of august. Was a mixture hairy vetch, collards, hybrid brassicas, sorghum/sudan, pearl millet, oats, peas, radish, forage soybeans, sunflowers, rye, and sun hemp.
