Subject: RE: Gas water heater

West Union, Illinois

runningbehind - .. intermittent cold water problems, then worked fine for a while. Flame looks good, no other gas issues in the house.
My guess would be the gas control.  It controls the heat.   Aimed up tank might contribute to this.  Price replacing the gas valve and replacing the entire water heater.  If the valve costs half of a new one just bite the bullet and replace it.

If you do replace it, before you put it in remove the stupid drain valve.  Replace it with a pipe nipple and a quarter turn ball valve (same size or bigger than the pipe nipple)  Every month flush the lime out of it.  it will last a lot longer and perform better.
