This actually worked pretty good.
We finished with the full season wheat.. then we put in the rest as a cover crop.. we did not fertilizer nor water it up.. Stand isn't perfect.. got some skips.. etc.. but good enough and if not for this we would have had more blow outs.. Now it's DRY.. but if we get rains..?? then we can water the rest of the corn up.
I doubted this also but in 2014 in similar conditions.. we planted into dryland like this.. and it rained.. and it was a cool summer.. and it worked.
