Little River, TX | I would wait until after dew burn off to top dress nitrogen. Murate of Potash, K-Mag, and triple super phosphate is not bothered by dew.
As I understand it, the dairyman did not get any moisture until a week after the fertilizer had been applied. They did not test their pastures for quality, but went on looks and how the milk tank was doing.
At the time that dairy had one big bermudagrass field. Every Thursday the wife would run a shredder over half the pasture. That is the half the cows would concentrate on that next week. Later they went to multiple paddocks, with the milking cows getting first grazing eating only the tops of the grass. The dry stock would follow to graze down the stems.
They now make most of their money selling hay to horse owners near Dallas. | |
