This might reference older software menus, but will give you the gist of what is going on. They are likely in a format where you licensed the rights to use the file, you did not buy the file to use.
Apple eventually had to go to something different, because this got to be such a hassle everyone started pirating music files one could actually use; to avoid the mess this made, even honest people were so frustrated they just stopped buying music entirely.
