Update gets downloaded from JD, just like for any other JD controller, not a big deal.  The WAS hardware change you did will make a bigger difference than the software update.  And at this point you need to do the wiring change to make it useable, software can come later.  I'd go ahead and calibrate and see how it does.  You can then update software when convenient and shouldn't have to calibrate again.
