Not really a answer to your problem, I have switched to raised beds, 4 x 16 ft, made with treated 2 x 12 , still make a couple rows for squash & cantaloupe, I can set on a 5 gal bucket and plant 3.5 ft section, for things like carrots i plant 6 drills, 3 from each side, I use a hand planter, called a seed master, i can plant small seed with out having to do much thinning, i grow my Irish Potatoes, tomatoes, snap beans, & bell peppers in the raised beds, this method really works well for me as i have grown older, 80 now, I use drip tape for watering I find i can raise a lot of stuff in these beds, plus they are easy to maintain, Just set out all my tomatoes yesterday
