Chebanse, IL.....

Jim

I think much of the talk in NE IL re. application of fungicide to corn, especially the Headline brand (they seem to be doing most "plots") is to help counteract Gray Leaf Spot and forms of anthracnose.

Re. the GLS, some varieties of corn exhibit it more than others, but are still good yielding corns. The fungicide may help bring full potential. I'd say at this point, there are very few acres being sprayed by farmers. Seems like lots & lots of plots though. I believe timing may be an issue. Depending on growing conditions, you may have to apply by airplane. That adds a few $$ to the costs also. I always question the results however. Seems we see plots that show from "0" to "20 bu/A" increase. Problem is, that "0" could be your corn in your field in the end.

I too would worry about resistance if the products were overused.

I'm not sure what we're seeing w/soybeans yet. You'd think this would be the year to make a fungicide shine in beans, with some of the heavy rains that occurred.
