NC IL I80@68 | Had a 2800 7 bottom pulled with a JD 8630 set about 18in had a hard time pulling it 4 1/2 mph A4 gear it did a poor job turning ground over and covering trash . Also plowed with an IH 720 5-18's pulled with a 4840 coundn't run them together the 2800 wouldn't throw dirt far enough to match the IH plow and IH plow threw it too far over left a ridge . sold 2800 pow a year later . Later I bought an IH 700 7-18 pulled it with 8400 neighbor uses it behind a MX240 .The 8400 does a little better but not much can hold 5mph even in some of our so called black gumbo around here . I like green tractors , John Deere made the first steel plow but it sure as heck wasn't the best one . Get a later IH 700 with the auto spring resets don't know the exact break down but they have more clearance length between bottoms . By the way they are fully pull plows drawbar hitah lamd wheel, furrow and a tail wheel . Years back when lots of plowing was done the IH plow especially the 720 probably accounted for 75% of plow market no matter what horse was up front . | |
