The challenge is getting alternative covers to (a) survive until the crop is harvested and (b) to grow after the crop is harvested and (c) prosper into the next spring to provide "cover" for the next crop.
If a cover crop does not provide growing cover or provide huge amts of dead fall cover to protect soil into the next growing season, is it worth it?
