Montana | I know that the density and quality of hay is so different but if a person had straight alfalfa that is good, I would think that person would want 70 dollars per ton for the hay put up. If it gets put up right, it is worth about $240 to $150 per ton, from what I have seen.
We like straight alfalfa if we have a lot of old grass but if we are feeding ten to 20 pounds of hay, we sure like real green wheat hay best. If I were to sell my sanding, beardless wheat, for hay, I would sure want 60 dollars per ton, standing in the field. Good green wheat hay is easily worth $120 per ton for us. I sold some last year for $100 a ton and should have asked more but trucking from here is very difficult and expensive. | |
