The observation was in regards to compaction. As far as improving soil structure any more than tillage would, you are right, but the presenter was comparing tillage and freeze/thaw cycles and the effect on compaction itself in the more northern reaches of the corn belt.


Now if we want to discuss, infer, or prove that all of this compaction busting freeze/thaw process is useless without some kind of program to hold the soil structure in place between cycles. I think that would be a worthy topic.
