I love comments like this:

Finally, look at engines. 8.3L is common, long lasting, parts sourced anywhere. engine goes down, you can find one anywhere, strip it down to a long block, swap all your goodies over, drop it in, go. JD? gotta find the right engine for the right application or it may not fit, probably a SN break or two, salvage yard already sold out of the engine you need, etc.

It can be taken both ways, Watch this:

Finally, look at engines. JD 7.6L is common, long lasting, parts sourced anywhere. engine goes down, you can find one anywhere, strip it down to a long block, swap all your goodies over, drop it in, go. R62? gotta find the right engine for the right application or it may not fit, probably a SN break or two, salvage yard already sold out of the engine you need, etc.

To me the first post just show somebody who doesn't know enough about the JD and just posts his pro Gleaner position and his own lack of knowledge about a different manufacture.

The point is the Cummins WILL fit. you can swap application specific items over to the engine you are swapping in.

While it may not be a combine as the example, there is other products in the JD lineup that use a specific block. We have a friend that had the engine go down on his 7455 cotton stripper, and he played hell finding an engine, as only cotton strippers and swathers used that particular engine.
