My gardening experience with onion sets is that they are very forgiving. I have always been amazed with the amount of time I have been able to keep the sets alive. I leave them bunched together but do remove the rubber band. I put them into a plastic sack and keep lightly watered. I have bought plants and been unable to plant for nearly a month. They can get pretty haggard looking and still be planted and make a fine crop. I do sometimes lose a few plants. I wouldn't worry about frost or freeze on the plants. They seem to handle that fine. If the soil is dry I'd plant them now. That's what I have done successfully in the past. That being said I'm feel confident my method isn't the proper way. I enjoy gardening but my time always gets prioritized to the farming needs. I, like you am looking forward to hearing from the pros. |
