Subject: 2 mile visibility from blowing dust.

We're getting pummelled today with sustained 30+ mph winds.  The visibility is down to just under about 2 miles.. depending on where you are.  Someone asked me at Church this morning how the wheat crop was fairing?

my reply:

"Well we do have moisture below so.. it went in so late that it looks small.. but I do believe when we get to green up that it will try to grow.. and may last for awhile.  The Weather outlook.. (ENSO cycle) is not favorable.. so it looks like we'll be on our own for awhile.. but Spring is coming and we do expect to get some moisture at some time.. What we be left to save at that point.. I don't know."

I'm not "talking" about "killing the crop".. they say a picture is worth 1,000 words.. see for yourself..

Frankly the roads are blowing more than the fields.. and the bad spots are where the Cattle come up for water.. and feed.. and to be clear this is on "stuble" from last falls corn or feed.. Not the Wheat.

From the pickup.. "well that field 2 miles over there is blowing.. " then you drive by it.. "hmm not so bad.. but THAT ONE.. 2 miles away.. is blowing"  drive by it.. "not so bad.."  but there is a LOT of sand and dust in the air.. the Wheat is getting "sand blasted" in these conditions.. NOT ENOUGH to KILL it TODAY.. but it's kind of like "death by 1,000 papercuts" as it is "not helping."

We got 2 more months of this to go.. near the later stages we should get some SEASONAL precip in here..   No doubt.. we'll get moisture.. or it REALLY WILL BE BAD.. it's just a question of "WHAT WILL BE LEFT??" to save at that point.. probably only 1..2.. maybe 3% has blown out and is DONE.. the other 99..98..97% can still be salvaged.. from some level.. at this point.

.. but every day we miss.. adds.. 120 days since "meaningful" rainfall.. 121... 122.. 123... etc.. at some point.. "IT MATTERS!"

Even the Cattle don't like it.. see 4th pick.. Cow/calfs in "hunker down" mode.. about 50 yards away..

1st picture.. Tree Row on the Right is 1 mile away.. Tree Row on the Left is 2 miles away..
