Subject: RE: waterway question

Macon, IL
We just had a large project completed for NRCS to their design. Where water was moving fast but not a lot of volume we put in what they called "Rock Checks". Basically a 3ft wide, 3ft deep, and 2/3 the width of waterway hold filled with 4" rock. The "pit" was lined with geofabric before the rock was dumped in. I can grab some pictures of it if that would help.

The idea in under heavy rain events the water flows into the pit-slows down-and comes out the other side slower. If soil does wash away the rocks will sacrifice themselves to prevent it further. Really not bad to mow around or anything as it was constructed level with the ground.
