Subject: RE: After 30 years

David Loberg Northeast Nebraska
I am still planting 100% P this year. Channel was a close second in our side by side last year, and Dekalb got spanked. 0339AM, 0801AMX, 1257AMX & 1197AMT were our top performers. Most of these Pioneer numbers are racehorses, they sprint like hell and rack up yields, but they fall apart at the end. We generally start harvesting at 23-24% and usually have everything out at 17%+. 19% is my ideal moisture for harvest, there's virtually no harvest/header losses, and everything is still sound. When beans are tough/not ready, we'll go on corn. If wanting to leave corn until it's dried down to 15%, there's probably only a few numbers that will hang in there consistently. 1151, etc come to my mind, but they don't have the top end that these others do. Everyone loves the yields they make, but throw a challenge at them, and they can stumble. It fits our management style, but understandably not others. And sometimes, mother nature trumps all...
