The Chinese government artificially inflates the price of corn to help encourage their farmers to grow it. This has a negative effect on the rest of china's population, as it increases their food cost.

China also highly tarrifs imports of many ag goods from other counties to support the price paid to their farmers.

Most developed counties have some form of financial support for agriculture. It would be difficult for the USA to compete if everyone else did, and we didn't.

A good part of our economy depends on ag. US ag provide low cost raw materials that the rest of the economy uses to make billions. For instance, I believe Tyson Foods made 4 billion last year. All made possible by the american farmers and ranchers
