Subject: Broadcasting wheat (pics included)

South Africa
We've been seeding wheat, barley, oats and triticale like this for many years. Applied at rates slightly higher (10% or so) than drilling, we get the same yields in normal weather. In wet years better than drilling, in dry years drilling is better. All depends on the weather, but on average there's not much difference. But with fuel prices nowadays, many farms here are going all no-till. The pics show the Magitec spreader we use for seed + fert (2 hoppers, seed on top, fert below). The delivery chains are driven by the ground wheel and the spreading disks hydraulically. There are also pics of the implements we use to cover the seed. Usually a light harrow is sufficient, but some years the soil is too hard, then the chisels are used for this job too. Works well here.
