Subject: Checking Grain bags

Iowa
Posted on here at harvest — first year trying bags. Went in early November (corn) with highs around 50, lows freezing. I tried some at 18-19%, and some that is dry. December was warm — lots of 30’s for highs— then 2 weeks of cold — lows below 0. Highs 0-15, I’m checking weekly or more and seeing no cause for alarm — did find 1 mouse hole which I patched. Is there a more extensive way to check them? I had someone say to walk on them which I did- but in the cold that made me nervous. I do have a get nice layer of frost on the top and sides — so I know the outside Grain is cold. Grain is flexible in the bag — anything else I should watch? Should start picking them up next week, done end of feb- wetter stuff first. I was tempted to cut a few verticals holes and do more checking but when it got so cold I figured that was a good way to split something. Just used to checking bins - kicking fans on.
