And, maybe a location of whereabouts you are, or the soil type you are dealing with.

Up here in my deep heavy wet soils that are frozen tundra 5+ months a year, plant with frost in the ground and harvest beans and corn after the first frost, a cover crop is a tough deal to achieve. We can interseed and get some small cover growth, but the benefit of a spindly cover is questionable more years than not.

If you are getting rain you may be in a more mild climate and have some growing degree days to devote to covers. As well you might have a lighter soil that is more likely to leach off nutrients and the covers would help more, and a bigger need to recreate some organic matter?

Location and soil types make a difference for a cover crop discussion I feel.
