If you are semi computer literate SMS is not that hard to work your way through. Spending a winter messing around with it would be very beneficial. Once you have everything set up its really easy to download things like soil types. I have also downloaded and imported a lot of historical imagery of the ground that I farm. I do my own soil sampling with SMS Mobile, the results are then emailed to me and I import them into SMS. This part takes a little knowledge to do but YouTube has a lot of helpful videos. I create fertilizing prescriptions and send them off to the applicators as well. There really is a lot that you can do with the program. If you do RTK its even possible to create and modify guidance lines. To company so far has been very helpful when I have questions or issues. This is a PC based program though so if you run SMS Mobile you will not be doing it on an Ipad. I have wires to hook my RTK receivers to my tablet and can mark tile lines, fence lines or whatever you feel necessary doing or recording. I pay $300 per year for SMS, for me its been well worth it. Best of luck. |
