What you posted was what I understood to be true about murder rate and crime rate.

There is a Snopes article pointing out how a claim by you president about increased crime/murder rate was false.
Probably why people get led astray in believing these things when the leaders tell false tales.

I think one of the reasons given for the rise in violence and murder in the 60ies and 70ies was the lead in the gasoline as well as the large number of young people in the population as the boomers grew up.
