NE Wisconsin | My old man says that you always think your doing things the right way until you ask someone else opinion, then you find out you were wrong the whole time.
But I am going to ask NAT opinion anyway.
We raise some wet calves until finished. Going from wet to grain is easy. They just start free choice eating grain and backing off milk till I cut them off. Say 55-65 days old when weaned.
Then in groups of 10-15 they get calf grain and free choice dry hay until (about 4-5 months, when I think they look big enough, say 300-375lbs) then they get unto a grower TMR ration with corn silage, HMSC, hay, dry distillers. Sort of the way my old man did things when he was a dairy.
Whats your favorite (or best?) way to get them from mainly calf grain to mainly corn silage? I've been somewhat raising calves my whole life and haven't really thought that much about this transition. Doesn't seem to be too stressful, but just wondering if there is a different or better way. | |
