I have made most of mine. Keep in mind that about a third of the cost of an auger is liability insurance. A completely enclosed auger won't work. People get their hands and feet in augers. then, sue the maker.
Buy a sheet of 12 gauge steel, start in cutting bending, welding, drilling. Tube is available. Flighting is available.
You better make several plain ones before you start on powered sweep. Not something a person can't do but it is more complicated.
